About Pinky

Oh Hi there! I’m Pinky, a rather bubbly artist living and working in Wodonga, Regional Victoria, right by the banks of the beautiful Murray River. Studying a masters in Graphic communication, Multimedia, visual arts, Millinery and Costume for theatre rooted me firmly in the arts and endowed me with an undying urge to devote my life never ending exploration of art practices. I started in industry as a Graphic Artist for a software company and then moved into teaching at Wodonga TAFE where I developed a love for tutoring and a desire to teach creative skills to more people at a more affordable rate. And so I now work for myself as a mixed media artist and illustrator using a very broad range of materials inclusing wood and ceramics, botanical colour for paper and textile application and digital illustrations.

Having grown up in the bush I have always been heavily tied to nature and the natural materials available to hand. This deep tie to our natural environment was further ignited by my passion for historical research into the art practices of our distant ancestors. I study ancient textile fragments and pottery thousands of years old in order to understand the importance of design for culture as well as functionality.

I have been a mostly privately practicing visual artist for well over 10 years while raising my two children, teaching in Creative Industries at Wodonga TAFE and then finally leaving to start my own creative business full time 7 years ago to support myself as an artist.

Crafty Possums has been my way to utilise my creative practice to generate an income through wearable art,  independent teaching  through a variety of workshops (primarily botanical colour) and selling supplies for my students. Most of all I am a fierce defender of the importance or visual creativity and the vital role our calling plays in transcending disabilities, language and time to communicate to one another as humans. I also believe in creativity that doesn’t impact or environment heavily and have been exploring materials made from plants and earth in order to divorce synthetic materials such as acrylics and plastics.

I have a longterm project I have been working on entitled ‘Ephemeral by Nature’. You can view my progress here.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story.

Stay creative beautiful people,

-Pinky xox
